Links to the Arabic tongue, word by word

Each link below joins a word in an ancient tongue to an Arabic one, and says at which layer the join sits: at the later triliteral root, or at the older binary nucleus of two consonants. Every Arabic sense is quoted from a named classical lexicon.

The gradient: the farther the branch, the older the layer that survives

A near branch can still hand back the whole triliteral root, because it left late, after the root had settled. A branch that left earlier keeps only the older binary nucleus. That is what we expect. The bars below do not draw the expectation, they count every link that issued.

The links themselves

Each block below gives its language's full count first, then shows a readable sample of those links, chosen so that a quoted lexicon line comes with each one. The counts are the whole population; the rows are the sample. For where a candidate enters before it becomes a link, see the discoveries roster.
